Ace Cauyan's SelfStirring

SelfStir provides its users an avenue to know who they really are. Moreover, it also serves as an avenue for them to know what people think of them. I took the friend and work contexts and invited my friends and my orgmates to participate in the survey.

For the first context, it revealed that i do relate to my friends in a very close way. The results show that I learn from their experiences while they also learn from ours. Also, it shows that I understand them in different ways and we share the same purposes. However, I did not do very well in the Achievement competency of the said context. For the second context, the results revealed that I work well with people since I make sure that everyone is involved and that I see the good in everyone. Also, the results show that I believe in my workmates and that I do well in fighting for our purposes. However, the Vision & Purpose competency wasn't as high as the other competencies.

The results were quite okay for me. The results were volatile, maybe because of their different perspectives about me. Some gave very high ratings while some gave low ratings. I am already aware of how I act as a friend and as a workmate. However, I might have lacked effort in showing them who I really am and what I am capable of doing. With this, I'd be more motivated to better myself as a friend and work better as a workmate.

A 360-degree assessment would be beneficial for an organization, because one would be able to compare how he sees himself and how other people see him. Through this, he will be able to motivate himself in doing better in everything that he does and to actually know the things one should do in certain situations. This assessment would help me become a better leader by knowing myself and knowing how people view me as a leader. This will help me in decision-making and considering every person and stakeholder around me.

A self-assessment would be essential in leading an organization. Know your leader, know your organization.

Cauyan's Myers-Briggs

16 Personalities’ test (www.16personalities.com) revealed the I have an Advocate Personality – I.N.F.J personality. It stands for Introvert, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging which represents my four dimensions characterizing my personality type.

The result of the personality test seems to be in line with my actual personality. First, it is true that I feel joy and satisfaction every time I exert time and effort helping the people around me. Through this, they reciprocate the good deeds by paying back. Second, I do try my best to be able to avoid conflicts because I believe that conflicts are a waste of time. However, If I’m unable to avoid these conflicts, I also try my very best to resolve them in many ways. Lastly, I strive everyday to achieve my dreams and goals in life.

INFJ’s are usually those who work well with and for people. Some are counselors, social workers, human resource workers, and managers. Famous INFJ’s are Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa. I do agree that the characteristics of an INFJ would be fit for the recommended jobs and I would also be a good performer once I’d be hired for those jobs. However, my dream job – being a pilot seems a bit far from the stated jobs since it’s under the ISTP personality. The results do not appeal to me that much because it’s too far from what I’ve always wanted and there’s a small chance of me being employed in those occupations.

Myers-Briggs Personality Test is a great avenue for a person to identify who he really is. My results made me realize that I’m more than just what I know and what people know about me. It is really important for someone to know who he really is for him to be able to relate to the people around him. Also, it is important to know oneself to know others. This is a key to being a business leader – know yourself and your constituents, for you to be able to work well and to be able to produce desired outcomes.

The Workplace (feat. The Millenials)

The Generation Y, those who are born between 1976 up until 2004, have invaded The Workplace. These new addition to gave a whole new meaning and a whole new feel to the working environment. They are famously known as "The Millennials."

Simon Sinek, in his video with Inside quest entitled "Millennials in the Workplace", said that these Millennials are hard to manage. According to the video, there are different work issues millennials are experiencing in the current setting in their workplace:

One of these issues would be wrong parenting strategies implemented where these so called millennials rely to much on their parents. They are usually born with a silver spoon in their mouths and are raised with the the wrong mindset -- that you can get anything you want, anytime you want. Another alarming issue would be the over reliance of these millennials on technology. Technology, although beneficial by making different sets of tasks easier, has become addictive for millennials. A lot of time has been wasted and a lot of real conversations have been avoided because of the dependency and addiction of millennials with technology. The last issue, which in my view produces the biggest impact on how millennials behave would be their own working environment. They work in different companies who prefer big bottomlines and a huge market share than employee satisfaction and involvement. Because of this, they are unable to better themselves and grow with the organization, which also results to the high turnovers of companies.

Being one of the millions of millennials in the globe, I am alarmed by how different organizations view us as something negative for them. Watching Simon Sinek's video and reading the different articles posted taught me different things, including how I should behave in my near involvement with an organization:

First, nothing worth having comes easy. Life is full of steep and bumpy roads, and one has to go through these roads to achieve something worth having. One who is born with a silver spoon in his mouth must test his real capabilities by taking the same steep and bumpy road, through this he will be able to test his own skills and capabilities and improve and better himself. Another takeaway from the references would be to spend less time in front of technology and start real conversations. This would increase one's productivity and will help strengthen networks and communications with others. Lastly, organizations still prefer using the multistream approach in management. Millennials should learn how to brave the management approach of the organization and must know how to live within it.

It's all in one's self. One's purpose and impact is self-defined. Also, in order to get what you want, work for it.

Millennials should not be put down because of their negative characteristics. I believe that they still have a lot of chances to prove their worth and their relevance in their respective organizations.
